Advocate for DLTA!
District Local Technical Assistance (DLTA) funds are distributed among the state’s 13 Regional Planning Agencies to help move municipalities forward in the Commonwealth’s key initiatives including regional collaboration, promoting economic development, best practices in zoning, and protecting the environment.
More information about MAPC's involvement in the DLTA program can be found here.
DLTA was not included in the Senate’s FY11 Budget. The House has funded the program at $2 million (Section 67) in its FY11 Budget.
It is critical that members of the FY11 Budget Conference Committee, which will meet to iron out differences in the budgets passed by the two branches, see a show of support for the program in order to secure DLTA funding in FY11.
Please contact the individual members of the Conference Committee to express your support for the program and request that they adopt the House language funding the program at $2 million. It would also be useful to contact your local legislators and ask that they communicate the importance of the program to the members of the Committee.
Members of the Conference Committee include:
|
Chairman Charles Murphy
|
Senator Steven Panagiotakos
|
|
Vice Chairman Barbara L’Italien |
Senator Stephen Brewer |
|
Rep. Robert Hargraves |
Senator Michael Knapik |

We must invest in both new revenue and reform to bring our roads, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian infrastructure into the 21st century.
Fixing our transportation system and fixing it right is a matter of economic competitiveness for our state, and it must be a top priority. Reforms to the transportation network are necessary, but they cannot replace the unavoidable need for new revenue.
The Senate, House of Representatives, and Governor have worked hard throughout the past few months to enact reforms that will result in significant cost savings, and for dedicating a portion of new sales tax revenue to transportation. But even this won’t be enough to close the transportation funding gap that Massachusetts faces in the coming months and years.
